Emoti includes support for downloading new emoticons directly from the app's site without having to install a new build. When new emoticons are available, the app alerts the user and offers to begin the download immediately or defer it till later.

The download screen provides detailed information about the download progress, scrolls the new images across the screen as they are downloaded, and provides clear choices in the case of a failure.

Details

New emoticons are arranged on pages inserted at the beginning of the list. If existing emoticons have been reordered in the new set, the user's custom sort order is preserved and partial pages are merged before insertion.

All downloadable items are signed during publication and verified by the app to ensure their validity.

The app supports a custom URL scheme for installing alternate emoticon sets during testing. Pasting the URL into the browser launches Emoti which begins the download immediately. A different URL can be used to switch back to the latest release emoticon set.

A few unique single-user emoticons were created as perks for employees, testers, friends, and family. Like the test sets, these are installed by pasting a URL into a browser, which launches the app to complete the installation. Once installed, the unique emoticons are displayed on a full page.
